February 1, 2022

Breckenridge Dental Group advocates that you shouldn’t attempt home treatment or other unproven strategies. That is because dental emergencies require prompt, professional treatment to prevent the risk of irreparable damage. The best alternative is to visit a dental clinic as promptly as possible to see an emergency dentist.

Dental emergencies can occur at any time and can be devastating. Hence, having an effective structure for emergency dentistry is a fundamental unit of a dental practice to prevent unplanned hospital visits and hospital bills.

Common Dental Emergencies.

The following conditions are emergency dental problems requiring the services of an emergency dentist in Breckenridge:

  1. Sudden Toothache
  2. Knocked Tooth
  3. Broken Braces
  4. Lost tooth filling or it falls out
  5. Lost tooth crown or it falls out
  6. Something Gets Stuck Between Your Teeth
  7. Loose Braces

Sudden Toothache

The first thing to do is to call your dentist and explain the symptoms. If it is a mild ache, you can take an over-the-counter painkiller like paracetamol or ibuprofen. After that, rinse your mouth with warm water and hold an ice pack to your face at the affected area.

Knocked-out Tooth

A knocked-out tooth could occur secondary to trivial or significant trauma to the oral cavity, and so when this happens, and you can find the knocked tooth, do well to keep it. After that, put it in a small container of milk or a cup of water with a pinch of salt as the best chance of saving your tooth is if a dentist reinserts it within one hour. See a dentist for a chipped or broken tooth too.

Broken Braces

If a brace wire gets to break or protrude from it, attempt to push it into a more comfortable position using a soft material such as a pencil’s rubber end. If you can’t do this, put dental wax or a piece of gauze over the end. Please don’t cut the wire as you could end up swallowing it.

Lost Tooth Filling

When this happens, get warm water and rinse your mouth with it. Get and place a cold compress on the outside of your mouth, and apply gauze to any bleeding. Call your dentist, and get over to the emergency as fast as possible.

Lost Tooth Crown

When this happens, retrieve the crown and take it to your dentist. If the area around the tooth is painful, apply a small amount of clove oil. Try to put the crown back in place, also using toothpaste to coat the inner surface to act as an adhesive.

Something Gets Stuck Between Your Teeth

A tooth or gum or oral infection, in general, could be the result of something getting lodged in between your teeth. The first thing to do is to try and use a floss to remove the stuck object. Don’t use a sharp object to get the object out, as this can damage your teeth and gums.

Loose Braces

At home, you can use dental wax to re-attach loose braces temporarily. An alternative way is to apply the wax over the braces as a cushion. If the problem is an open band, save it for your dentist to re-cement or replace it.

Dental Emergencies.

Dental emergencies can be quite a painful experience. Hence, the best thing to do is follow professional tips to prevent dental emergencies of any kind. Breckenridge Dental Group Emergencies recommends the following:

  • Breaking bad habits like chewing pencil or pen stubs and chewing gums containing lots of sugar.
